Manali is a famous hill station located at the northern part of Himachal Pradesh. Manali is a popular destination in terms of adventure sports as well as back packing. Located in the Kullu district, Manali offers a lot of exciting treks as well as adventure sports. Hadimba Temple, Vashisht temple and Jogini Falls are situated so near to the town and these places are best site seeing options in Manali. It is also the gate away for Pir Panjal trek and the famous Rohtang Pass. It is also one of the famous Honey Moon destinations in India. Manali offers a wide variety of stays and adventure activities which makes it one of the most prominent destinations in India.
Things to Do in Manali
Solang village lies to the north of Manali town and this is the last village of the region. A few adventure treks start from Solang valley. Solang is famous for activities like ice skating, cable cart ride and Para gliding. You can reach Solang valley by hiring a taxi. Rain coats and rubber boots are available for rent so if you are looking for some snow time, we recommend you hiring them so that you don’t get yourself wet.
There are a lot of river rafting options in Manali and around. An ideal river rafting is around 10Km to 15 Km stretch and preferably it has to be done in the morning. There are a lot of rafting options in Manali. River rafting will be at its best during June and July.
Hidimba Devi Temple
Hidimba temple is located at around 2km from Mall Road, Manali. The main diety is Hadimba devi, who is believed to be the wife of mighty Bhima, the famous character of epic Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by giant Cedar trees and there is an adjoining garden where people can take a walk around. The cone shaped roof and wooden doors make the construction of this temple unique. Temple will be open from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening.
Another must visit place if you are visiting Manali. There is a hot spring near Vashisht which makes it popular. It is said that this hot spring has a lot of medicinal values which can cure many skin diseases. Vashisht is a small village which is believed to be ruled by the clan of Rishi Vashishta. For those who are unaware, Rishi Vashishta is the guru of Ram and Lakshman according to the epic Ramayana. The temple is open from 7 A.M. to 9 P.M. And the hot spring is open from 7 A.M. to 1 P.M. and 2 P.M. to 9 P.M.
Beside the Vashisht temple, there is a train of around 2 to 3 km which takes you to the base of Jogini falls. The top of the falls is around 500m from the base. It is better to avoid climbing this during the monsoon season.
Located at a height of 4000 meters from sea level, Rohtang pass is one of the main destinations which attract millions of tourists to Himachal in a year. Here you can see nature in its rawest forms and this one of the favorite routes for bike riders which offer a lot of twist and turns. If you are not on a budget, hire a Bullet or Himalayan and take your time on the ride through this splendid path way. The beauty of the landscape will leave you awestruck the moment you enter Keylong road. Prior permit has to be taken before accessing the pass. This place is a paradise for trekkers and adventure lovers.
Gulaba is a small village which is located at around 20 Km from Manali. Gulaba is a snowy region, famous for its snow caped mountains and green meadows. If you’re looking for some snow time with your family or friends this will be the ideal option. The place offers a lot of adventure activities like trekking, hiking, skiing, paragliding, etc. The place is also pretty famous for star gazing and night camping. Summer and winter offers two different experiences and the place offers a breath taking view during both the seasons.
Located at a distance of 21 km from Manali Bus stand, this cave is believed to be the meditation ground of warrior prince Arjuna. The cave can offer a very exciting experience to adventure enthusiasts. Make sure that you keep a torch with you on the way to the cave as the natural light will not be available after a certain point. It’ll take around 45 minutes to 1 hour to explore the entire cave. Arjun gufa is situated at a distance of 10 Km from Prini village towards Naggar. The best time to visit this cave is from March to June.
Mall road has a lot of shops and it makes an ideal shopping destination in Manali. Mall road is right next to Manali Bus stand. There are a few ATMs and foreign exchange centers. Mall road can consume a good 2 hours for a shopaholic.
Well if you want to experience the Himachal culture, you shouldn’t miss out this one thing. Yak are intimidating furry animal but it is very friendly and social to humans. Yak riding is available in Solang valley and near Hadimba temple.
